Donate Dollars

Pro Action is proud of how efficiently we use federal, state and local resources to help people and change lives. In fact, administration represents just 6.84 percent of our overall expenses! However, because most of our funding (91%) comes from government sources, it is highly restricted, which limits our ability to provide everything that would help our customers to improve their lives.

To more fully support our customers' self-sufficiency and quality family life, we need additional, unrestricted dollars to meet needs not defined in our government contracts. So we have established a fund called CHAMP (Caring Hearts And Minds of ProAction) that our staff can use to make small grants to customers. These small CHAMP grants can help people past the barriers standing between them and a prosperous future.

You can help! Please make a donation in whatever amount you can share. Send checks, payable to Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc. to:

Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc.
Attn: CHAMP
117 E. Steuben Street
Bath, NY 14810

Please indicate "donation" in the memo field of your check.

Donate Goods

Some of our programs can accept new or gently used goods. The following is a list of items our programs could put to use if received in good condition.

To make a contribution, contact the CHAMP Program: Joe Golden at 607-776-2125 ext. 303 or via email at goldenj@proactioninc.org. Joe will make sure your item gets to a program that can put it to good use.

  • Holiday Gifts
  • Food
  • Diapers
  • Formula
  • New or gently used baby clothes
  • Nursery equipment
  • Gifts for new moms and dads

Donate In-kind Services

In-kind donations of services help Pro Action keep costs low and operate at high efficiency. The following services would be very helpful:

  • Printing
  • Advertising
  • Snow removal
  • Auto repair
  • Construction materials

Volunteer

One way Pro Action keeps its administrative costs low is by accepting help from those in the community who volunteer to support our mission. Volunteers perform a variety of functions for our broad array of programs including literacy tutoring, income tax preparation assistance and delivering meals. Some volunteers work directly with our customers and others work in the background. Whatever your preference, there is bound to be a volunteer post that's a good fit for you! All of Pro Action's volunteer opportunities are listed with 2-1-1's online service. Or, simply dial 2-1-1 and a call specialist will help you find our opportunities. Or, call the program that interests you (see program information throughout the Web site) and contact us directly to inquire about opportunities.

Advocate

If you are more of a "big picture" person, please consider becoming involved by advocating for public policies that prevent or relieve poverty. You can start by following news relating to poverty figures and policies that affect those living in poverty. It is also very easy to sign up with online communities that track relevant legislation and send action alerts to advocates. One example in line with Pro Action's priorities is the Coalition on Human Needs.
