I don't typically make New Year's resolutions, but for 2017, I feel compelled to. We are citizens of a country that was built by diverse populations and cultures, yet recently there seems to be so much more focus on our differences, than similarities.
My New Year's resolution is to continue to honor the values my parents raised me with and do all I can to help others live a life of fulfillment and acceptance. Despite our gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or ethnicity, we all are simply human. We love our families and do the best we can every single day. It has been my pledge and will continue to be, that no matter what, I will leave everything that I touch and every person I meet, a little better than how I found them. I hope you will join me in making every day we can in 2017 better than the previous!
Last, I want to thank you for all you do every day to make our communities better. I know that for so many, you are a source of acceptance and hope to our families who are struggling. I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.
Maya Angelou stated, we are all in fact one human family. I leave you with her poem, Human Family.
